Attempting Preservation is my ode to consignment stores and
antique/thrifting culture across America. The piece is made almost
entirely of thrifted objects that come from different places of reuse
and recycling. It implies time spent with a concentrated effort,
to seek out objects of beauty and belonging. With the culture of
roadside antiques in the Midwest, I have grown attached to my
collectibles and want to make space to honor them. The flower
is hung upside down to mimic the process of flower drying and
preservation. By consuming vintage goods are we preserving the
past, or are we fighting a losing battle to consumerist culture that
pushes everything to landfills faster and faster?
