Lamination Machine
My work is an amalgamation of how it feels to exist as a human
with all of the implication of contemporary life. How we are all
grappling with the bodies and objects around us, the systems out
of our control, and the expectations of our peers. I make a lot of
work with found materials and wanted to push that further for this
piece. I collected garbage from the streets of downtown Chicago
and bought a lamp from my local Village Discount. The lamp literally
illuminates the trash and forces the viewer to see it in the limelight.
The magazine image embedded in the plastic at the forefront
of the lamp base calls out our culture’s tendency to salivate for
overconsumption.
